Ichneumon-Class Aerial Recon Robot

If the Myrmidon is a Trader “walking tank” combat robot, the Ichnuemon is a Trader “flying drone” combat robot. They tend to be less ubiquitous as a defense form than the Myrmidon, but they often fly patrols through Trader Arcs, the buzz of their wings announcing their approach as their baleful multitude of camera-eyes stare unblinkingly at their prey. They can carry up to two weapons on a dynamic mount “under” their body, which, when equipped, gives them a “wasp-like” appearance. This is generally a heavier weapon, often a heavy tangler.

Traders use the Ichneumon as a small-scale combat drone. It often assists a single Trader, providing an “eye in the sky,” and attacking opponents from alternate angles. The Ichneumon can also “link up” with a properly-equipped Trader by attaching itself to the Trader’s armor. This allows it to provide flight capabilities: generally a single Trader is Medium Encumbrance to an Ichnuemon, reducing its flight move to 10.

Like Myrmidon’s, Ichneumons appeal to Traders’ unusual sense of efficiency and aesthetics, and tend to be deeply unpleasant to look at. They make an imposing presence in battle, but they tend to be shuffled away for diplomatic encounters.

This relatively simple upgrade dampens the acoustics of the Ichneumon’s normal systems and further dampens the “buzz” of their wings to a mere whisper. Additionally, it applies a “smart” camouflage job to the external robot, which grants it a +4 quality bonus to Camouflage while in a dark “technological” environment, such as the deep confines of a ship. In all other environments, it applies a -2 to camouflage. For simplicity, apply a -4 to notice the robot in such an environment (or +2 in other environments) rather than rolling for the robot’s camouflage (as it does not apply it itself).

A very common upgrade, tactical scanners allow the Ichneumon to use the equivalent of a small, tactical ultrascanner to scan up to 10 miles away (in search mode) and perform a detailed image-scan at up to 1 miles away. If it can “lock” onto a target, it gains a +3 to hit that target. When integrated into armor, the Ichneumon can provide this +3 bonus to the character wearing the integrated armor as well.
